WHO WE ARE

We're all familiar with them... Those big, beautiful trees that reside in city parks and on the front lawns of your favourite neighbourhoods. Now try to recall how many of those trees were stuck with a curious looking garbage bag band fitted around its trunk. Probably quite a few, right? It's something that we've all grown up with but have never really questioned. "Well it's there, so it must be important", you may find yourself saying. Well you'd be correct, as tree banding significantly controls pesky insects that can defoliate and seriously damage the health of our green giants. However, current methods have let us down. A garbage bag band, lined with fibreglass insulation, covered in axle grease and secured with duct tape. The intentions were good but have simply missed the mark.

Did you know that current banding methods have many downsides that can counter the good? Traditional tree bands can cause bark-rot, which damages a tree's appearance and health. They can even become waterlogged after rain and accelerate this process. They also contain many petroleum based materials that can be harmful for the environment when producing and even disposing. These materials won't safely biodegrade in landfills and can be there for decades! Not to mention that the materials are expensive to purchase as they all come separately. Not only are traditional bands an eye-sore to look at but are inconsistent and ineffective when it comes to doing their job.

So wait, why are we still using these? The answer may be simple. There hasn't been a previously perfected tree band that checks all of the right boxes. A solution that is affordable, eco-friendly and aesthetically pleasing. Something that simply works and works well. No bells, no whistles, just a tree band that any member of your family could install (and in less time than it takes to have your morning coffee). No, they may not be glamorous like a new iPhone, but they serve an important purpose in our parks and neighbourhoods.
